A classically trained draftsman, Groth works in pastel, oil, charcoal or prismacolor. His paintings recall the lush colors and figure work of the Pre-Raphaelites. The figures exist neither in the past nor the present; they are archetypes occupying a timeless world. Here is a world of tranquility, harmony, dreams and dreamers. Figures of sensuous innocence live here - geishea, mermaid, angels and daydreamers. The art bids one to stop for a moment, to push pause and then move on refreshed-a respite in an often overloaded, time-poor world. Groth's references points are primarily late 19th and early 20th century painters and movements including J.W. Waterhouse, Robert Henri, the Pre-Raphaelites, the Newlyn School.

Oh it was worth waiting for dear Painter and I am enjoying your fine work of art.I love the light coming through the window,how it plays on the wall and accentuates the line of her sensual figure in that beautiful silken dress,her lovely breasts, the fabric showing the indent of her navel and the way the sash follows the line of her hips and thighs... I love the dress, love the colour, so feminine. The hint of an earring, a golden bracelet, the decorative vase with a white flower, the sheer cafe curtains, the small patterned carpet on which she stands...all beautiful!
The note in her hand, the opened envelope on the ledge, but is she happy, was this a romantic note and is she lost in thoughts of love, or was it not what she was expecting, has he made his apologies that he won't be with her this evening when she looks so beautiful? I wonder, I hope it is a note of love!
