Pensacola Museum of Art

Here is a shot of one of my paintings in a museum setting. I always think art no matter how wonderful or dreadful takes on a different and less approachable feeling in an art museum.

I agree, a painting seems less intimate in the vast space of a large gallery or a museum but still it is wonderful to be able to see these works of art which would normally not be available for us to see.
Though we are unable to get too close for reasons of security it is still a pleasure to see the real colours, layers and textures.
I found this when I attended the Renoir exhibition at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, I was amazed at the difference between the real painting and its photo representations.
But dear Painter you must have a feeling of personal satisfaction to see your beautiful mermaid displayed at the museum. :)

I have found that exhibitions at smaller galleries have been more enjoyable and the art is more accessible.

It's true that galleries give paintings a different feel, but that's not always necessarily a bad thing I think as different settings may change your perspective on an artwork.

Also, now more people will get to see it :)

Yes museums certainly have their place and I have certainly spent my share of hours in them.

That having been said, there is still something cold and elitist about the whole affair. I think that commercial galleries are perhaps the most problematic. In their quest to exude "quality" they often scare off a casual browser via a pompous attitude.

Let us share the beauty whether it be in a poem, a painting or a computer program.

Cheers,
